Online A Wrap Up

Technology is important because we used it every day. Technology is constantly changing. In the last five years we have gone from very basic flip phones to iPhones with touch screens and internet access. Five years ago we didn’t have GPS, Blu-ray players, or Android phones. In the next five years I think that we will have laptops that have never ending batteries due to solar panels. We could have cars that no longer rely on gas, but use other things like hydrogen, solar panels, or water. For school work I use my phone, laptop, computer, printer, and internet. For personal use I use mainly my phone because I have internet access on it. In the future I think I could do one of my projects on a podcast. I think I will have more reliable information now because I know have to evaluate a website. I know I will use the information I was given on identity theft to protect myself from it. The most practical thing in online A that I will use is the podcast and information on identity theft. I don’t think I will use Boolean operators while searching for things on Google. My favorite thing to create was the power point that was connected to my podcast and the ToonDoo. I didn’t like creating the voki or recording my voice.

I really liked learning this way. It’s easier for me to listen than to read text. I think people opt to create podcast as opposed to written text, because it’s easier to listen to text as to reading it. With podcast you can multitask as you’re listening. Surprisingly, Android has the top smartphone system in the world. Most of this achievement is owed to Samsung, which was the top phone manufacturer in 2012. Android grew its already significant chunk of the smartphone market to 68.8% last year. Apple’s iOS operating system stayed comfortably in second place with only 18.8%. Together, Apple and Android account for 87.6% of the smartphone market. Experts think that Android takes over the market because there are thousands of Android phones every size and shape imaginable. Apple has only released six versions of the iPhone. Apple sold 130 million smartphones in 2012. Samsung sold 384.6 million phones in 2012, only 53.5% were smartphones. Overall, Android dominates the market. Voki vs. Blabberize

Overall I think that the Voki website was easier to use. The website was easier to navigate and recording was easy. I liked that I was able to call in my voice when using Voki. I didn’t like how they didn’t have a lot of choices when creating a person. On Blabberize I liked how easy the website was to use and how I use any picture I wanted to. I didn’t like how hard it was to shape the mouth on the picture. Recording and importing the audio was more difficult on Blabberize. Overall I liked Voki better than Blabberize. I would use Voki again. I could use either of these sites for a Spanish project.

1. What personal information did Teresa give out? She listed her brother’s name. She didn’t give out any personal information, but her user name tells she is a girl, a teen and her name is Teresa. 2. Have you ever put personal information on the Internet? Yes, I have put personal information on the internet. An example is the information needed to sign up for a Facebook. I have never given out personal information to anyone who has messaged me for it. 3. What do you believe is the most important thing to remember when using the Internet? I think the most important thing to remember when using the internet is that anyone can see what you put out there at any time. Summary on Broken Friendship: This girl had a best friend named Katie. They shared their passwords. On day she was checking her email and she noticed an email for an older guy at her school that she didn’t know. The emails made her feel uncomfortable. This group of popular girls convinced Katie to give them her best friends’ email password. The girls went onto her email and sent all the senior boys a photo shopped picture of Katie’s best friend naked. When she returned to school she noticed people whispering about her. She doesn’t have any friends now and she doesn’t talk to Katie any more. She regrets ever sharing her passwords with Katie.

I’m proud that people can see my achievements in volleyball and school through Google and Facebook. I’m shocked and totally creeped out that people can see all my tweets, my twitter profile picture, pinterest boards, and pinterest profile picture. I’m not really embarrassed about anything because I rarely post on Facebook. I really want to change my profile on twitter to private because it creeps me out that others can see my tweets without me knowing. My footprint accurately represents what I want to convey, a girl who likes pinning on pinterest and tweeting about her dog and volleyball. :)

Cyber Bully Video

There are lots of similarities and differences between the situations we talked about and the video. Some similarities are that kids usually get bullied on social networking cites and the bulling continues at school. Some differences are that usually the people who are being bullied do not confront the people who are bulling them.

Is file sharing legal?

Most file sharing is not legal. Vast majority of sites violate the copy right law. You may only make a copy of your own CD for your own personal use, you may record it to a cassette tape or MP3 files, but you may not share it with a friend. Generally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Copying copyrighted music is illegal.

Netiquette

Netiquette is a correct or acceptable way of communicating through the internet. Netiquette affects everyone on social networking sites. Some examples of good netiquette are good grammar and placing abbreviations in your text. Some examples of bad netiquette are typing in all caps, reading through other peoples’ emails, and going through other peoples’ files.

Copyright Case

Omega S.A. v. Costco Wholesale Corp. May 18, 2009, Costco Wholesale Corp. sold watches manufactured in Switzerland by Omega S.A. without Omega’s prior authorization. Omega used under the Copyright Act, claiming the sale of the watches was an infringement of the United States copyright. Costco defended on the grounds of the first sale doctrine, which provides a defense for reselling manufactured goods in the United States that are resold by retailers or distributors. Costco claims that the doctrine applies to the foreign-manufactured goods as well. Omega’s engraves a symbol on the underside of each watch known as the “Omega Globe Design”, this symbol has a United States copyright. On June 20th, 2012 the court awarded reasonable attorney fees and $396,844.17 to Costco.

Project wrap up

My favorite part of the project was creating the power point. My least favorite part of the project was researching. I learned that there is a Disneyland in Hong Kong. It was difficult to research the history of Hong Kong. I think some of the strong points in my presentation were two of the attractions and the geographic location. Some of my weak points were looking at the audience and the history slide. Some suggestions for future research projects would be to give the rubric earlier.

Windows 8 Touch Screen Laptop

Windows 8 new laptop has a touch screen. The only problem with this is that users are not interested. Only 5% of Windows 8 laptops that were sold through December 15^th were touch screens. Besides the fact that only 30 out of the 700 different kinds of laptops at Best Buy are touch screen, the new touch screen laptops cost up to $120 to $150 dollars more than a regular laptop. The cheapest touchscreen laptop is the 11.6-inch Asus VivoBook, which sells for around $500.
